Indigestion

So this week:

My new weekly habit was to move. Havent been to the gym but did some great bouts of housework, along with a busy week at work which meant a lot more moving around. Pretty poor effort on my part tho. So lets try that habit again next week.

Been doing well with meals tho. Been having very hearty smoothies for breakfast, as inspired by Miss Burlace. V8 juice, fruit, frozen berries, bit of yoghurt, protein powder, lsa and psyllium. Yummo - and nice and filling and it helps that I know its good for me.
Dinner in the past has been difficult - living with a boy that can eat a lot makes it hard. Its been easy to just dish up two similar sized meals, when clearly he needs more food than I do. And he needs carbs to fill him up - damn active male metabolism. So this week - Ive been serving half the meat and veg to him, quarter to me, and quarter to a container for my lunch the following day. And he gets 95% of the rice or pasta - I do add a little to my lunch container but none for dinner. And chewing my food more - making a conscious effort not to just swallow it down after 4 or 5 chews. That stuff I am feeling good about - and its working well.

Except last night. I have been reading a lot about digestion and stuff lately. And I know that as a rule, pork takes a lot longer for our systems to digest. But generally, your stomach empties after about half an hour. Last night, we ate about 8pm, and I made a pork stir fry thing. All cooked properly. Jeremy had no problems. At 11pm-ish, I started to feel physically ill. It felt like my stomach was still full and it was really uncomfortable. And it all decided to come back up about 11.30. It was all my pork from dinner, and not well chewed at all which did not help. So obviously I didnt pay attention to that properly last night, but Im still not sure what exactly caused the vomiting.

So that has then meant that all of today I have been off food, and wary of anything I do eat because I dont want to deal with anything else coming back up again. So bad food choices like chocolate and chippies. But one day does not ruin all my hard work - tomorrow is another day :)

And in the future, if I manage to eat pork again anytime soon, CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!!

  1. Good girl, back onto the wagon!
Possibly (and this is a guess) your stomach has gotten smaller cause you haven't been eating as much food, and the pork sitting in there was hurting it, and because pork is kind of sticky and it wasn't chewed properly it clumped and couldn't pass into the intestine - voila, vommiting. Lots of chewing, and just eating slowly, spacing it out, and not a large volume.

On the one hand, choc and chips are bad food choices, and I am not giving you permission at all. But on the other, if you weren't really able to eat anything else, the easy access sugars at least would have stopped your blood glucose from trying to climb out the bottom of your shoes. :S So don't beat yourself up too much... Next time, fruit instead. Banana is good on a tender tummy. :)
(Look at me giving advice I couldn't take in your place, I had subway cookies with dinner... Here, have some of this advice, I'm not using it - I couldn't make heads or tails out of it!! :p )

  2. Haha funny girl. Yeah I was going to have fruit but all I had was oranges... Acid wouldnt have been so fun. And I had Sprite Zero - its that childhood thing - you get a sore tummy and sick and you get lemonade and it makes you feel better. It worked too :)

And your theory is probably right - Im not eating as much and chewing slowly fills me up faster. Not sure what happened and why I didnt do that last night, but I did not like it.

My other thing I need to remember is - that I have a challenge going with Jo, Garry and Sandy - all putting in $5 a week and first to lose 10kgs wins the lot. I keep thinking "$5 a week isnt much" but I really cant afford to lose $50 (and it will be more than that) - and Im stressing about money - but winning at least $150 would really be the greatest thing at the moment - so if I just have to exercise and eat well to win money - that really should motivate me!!!

  3. I drink lemonade when I'm sick, too. :) Mum used to stir it to make it flat when we were little. :) Bread with vegemite (or marmite, you heathen) was always the first thing we ate when we were up to it again.

$150 sure would come in handy! Go Candi go!

I've made lots of little changes in the way I eat and move over the last couple of months, but haven't lost any weight. Frustrating, but I'm feeling better in other ways. I think to actually lose any fat I'll have to add up my calories in and calories out, try to create a deficit. I'm obviously still eating enough calories (healthier ones, though! Overall I'm getting more nutrients! \o/) to balance out what I do to spend them! :S My body wants the same amount of energy, so when I stop eating so much chocolate I instinctively supplement with other stuff - rice crackers and hummus at the moment. Yums.

Yeah the weight isnt coming off a lot but I will get there - at least this stuff will be more sustainable once I form a habit and stuff :)
